Golding says after breakout role, it’s downhill from now

LOS ANGELES: Betong- born English-Malaysian actor Henry Golding is taking a reality check after his breakout role in the surprise blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians.

Golding, 31, figures it’s all going to be downhill from now on. But he’s got a slight swagger in his walk, now that he has a shockingly large number of acting roles coming his way. To slow down that slide downhill, he’s sharpening up his skills with acting lessons.

If you’re looking for longevity, you have to be a hard worker. You have to put in the due diligence. You’ve got to be that people person. Essentially you become a commodity. You need to be that showman. … It’s a long road, but I’m getting to that point. Henry Golding, English-Malaysian actor

Figured a down- to- earth Golding: “If you’re looking for longevity, you have to be a hard worker. You have to put in the due diligence. You’ve got to be that people person. Essentially you become a commodity. You need to be that showman. … It’s a long road, but I’m getting to that point.”

Like director Jon Chu, Golding wasn’t expecting Crazy Rich Asians to be such a massive hit in the US. When that moment struck, he was gobsmacked.

Recalled Golding: “That’s when I started getting messages. People were coming up to me saying the movie is amazing. You guys did such a fantastic job. It means so much to me to see our faces portrayed on the big screen. For me, it was wild.”

Golding’s wife, TV presenter and fitness instructor Liv Lo is getting used to not having him with her as much as before. But she’s coping well.

On their relationship, she said in an uploaded video: “We are in an extremely secure place in our marriage at the moment. Things shift and change everyday, especially with our exciting lives. I’m just feeling really fortunate about being able to here and I wanted to share this experience with you.

“If anything that I’ve learned – the biggest is how much of an amazing guy Henry is and how fortunate I am to be in a mature relationship where he does include me, and I include him in my life. Because we really can’t live without each other and we know that we couldn’t do what we do without each other as well,” she said.
