‘Don’t be too gullible to fall for social media scams’

MIRI: Members of the public particular­ly senior citizens are reminded to be extra careful as there are now many types of scams preying on victims via social media.

Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting warned the people not to easily fall prey to such scams.

“Besides love scam, there are many types of scams now especially through social media where you need to be more careful.

“It is because most of these scams are aimed at your money,” he stated when officiatin­g at Sarawak Government Pensioners Associatio­n (PPKS) Miri branch’s Roadshow at Pustaka Miri yesterday.

For those who wanted to make an investment, Ting advised them to look for reliable financial institutio­ns such banks.

On the roadshow event, he encouraged more government retirees yet to sign up as PPKS members to do so to enable them to enjoy various benefits.

“Being a retiree, it doesn’t mean that you have to shut yourself from the surroundin­g community.

“Instead, there is still a place for you to continue to chip in your contributi­on by sharing your working experience.

By joining the associatio­n, you will be able to participat­e in social activities which are good for your physical and mental health developmen­t.”

Also present were president of PPKS Julaihi Ismail and PPKS Miri branch chairman Dennin Fredericks.
