Parcel scam caller fails to fool businessman

-

MIRI: A businessman here managed to avoid falling victim to a parcel scam on Friday after he immediately cut short a telephone call from an unidentified woman over a purported unclaimed item at a courier service company.

Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah in a statement yesterday said the 35-year-old man had received a call from a woman who informed the man that there was a parcel for him which had yet to be claimed.

The called also said the item cannot be released from the company as the item had been detained by the Customs.

“The complainant somehow felt that the woman suspect was trying to deceive him as he had never bought anything or know of anyone who wanted to mail any item to him,” Mustafa Kamal said.

The businessman subsequently ended the phone call and lodged a police report.
