School alumni visit alma mater, share experience with students

-

SARIKEI: A group of 31 SMK St Anthony alumni year 1988 visited their alma mater here yesterday to show their appreciation and love towards their former school.

Joseph Ling who led the group said members of the alumni came from Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Peninsular Malaysia and other parts of the state for the visit.

He added among the objectives of the visit was to share their experience with the present students which they hoped would serve as an aspiration for them to achieve their ambition.

Ling emphasised that the students needed to develop holistically — not only excel in the academic field but also in cocurricular activities and in aspect of character-building.

“Self-esteem or good quality is extremely important for students to face challenges in future working environment and being born in the information and technology (IT) era, they need to accept the fact that being ITsavvy is a critical factor to achieve success,” he said.

He also took the opportunity to urge more alumni to come back to celebrate the school’s 88th anniversary and World Anthonian’s Day on March 30 next year.

On hand to welcome the alumni at the school were about 80 senior students comprising prefects, brass band members and lion dance groups and teachers.

Principal Vincent Liong also briefed them on the success stories of the school.
