Ministry to address egg shortage

IPOH: A supply shortage had caused the recent increase in the prices of eggs of various grades in several states, it was disclosed here yesterday.

Agricultur­e and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub said one reason for the shortage was an increase in the export volume.

“Also, diseases that have affected the poultry industry, such as bird flu, are another reason for the shortage of supply,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Amanah National Convention 2018 here. Salahuddin said the ministry, in collaborat­ion with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, would take the appropriat­e action via an establishe­d joint committee to address the increase in the prices of eggs.

He gave the assurance that the ministry would overcome the problem of shortage of eggs soon.
