HELP leads the way in psychology

-

HELP University’s psychology programme continues to lead the way as one of the largest in South East Asia, with over 1200 full time psychology students, offering Bachelor (Hons)and Masters programmes at its campus in Subang 2.

HELP was the first private university to offer Psychology in Malaysia and also the first non-Australian university to attain the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accreditation, in recognition of its top quality psychology programmes.

Dr Goh Chee Leong, Dean of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, HU, past President of the Malaysian Psychological Association (PSIMA) and also the ASEAN Regional Union of Psychological Societies, feels that to understand minds and empower lives, the mission of HELP’s psychology programme is to prepare students who can make a significant impact in their communities and to continue to develop and expand the field of psychology in new and exciting ways.

As the world is also going through rapid changes brought about by the 4th Industrial Revolution, fast evolving technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and Big Data will all shape the future of psychology.

To be ahead, HELP has introduced new technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) systems to arm students with the latest technologies in the study of psychology. The VR lab provides opportunities for students, faculty members, and collaborators to conduct their experiments with VR machines.

In this lab, researchers can present an interactive virtual world where participants easily immerse themselves and feel reality using VR headsets and controllers.

Compared to conventional visual/auditory stimuli, VR programs can induce more varied, unique, or real psychological states in participants, which will be measured by the researchers.

The VR lab also has a potential for clinical uses such as a treatment for phobias.

Another exciting development is the use of EEG or Electroencephalography machines, which measure brain activity and functions to provide practical lab sessions and expose students to research methods used in biopsychology and neuroscience.

It also serves as a collaborative research hub and facility for the faculty by providing brain response measures in the investigation of areas like memory, language, and attention – hence providing a more objective and precise measure than traditional self-reports.

UNIVERSITI Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continuously led the way for railway talent development.

As anIndustrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) recipient under Technology Depository Agency (TDA), UniKL received 4-car train of Ampang Line LRV Car Units (ADTRANZ).

Through strategic partnerships with government agencies and railway companies, UniKL Asia Rail Centre leverages on itsalliance with TDA, Prasarana, Rapid Rail, CRRC and Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI).

The handover ceremony of 4-carwas officiated on Jan 29, 2018 at UniKL Asia Rail Centre, Cheras, KL.

UniKLAsia Rail Centre was established on 23 March 2016 by MARA as a new professional centre focusing on rail technology.

It is recognised as the nation’s first national higher institute focusing on rail technology offering professional courses, licence programmes and customised courses for professional development of the rail industry workforce in Malaysia.

At the moment, Asia Rail Centre has trained more than 270 participants from various background including UniKL graduates, railway engineers and technical personnel since its inception in 2016.

The centre of excellence also aims to create awareness and interest in railway technology to technical institution, schools and public.

UniKL is the first university that offers railway systems degree programmein Asian region.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons) in Railway System (BETRS), was developed through a series of engagement with international experts from Hong Kong and China.

Additionally, the programme syllabus was carefully refined to railway related topics by industry experts from local railway companies, such as Rapid Rail.

BET (Hons) in Railway Systemwas designed to immerse students with the knowledge and practical of railway system via e-learning, virtually reality, industry scalable depot, system workshops, project collaboration with industry partners, and internship opportunities.

Students will experience hands-on practice with various systems including Rolling Stock System, Signalling and Communication, Electrification, Operation Control Centre, Tracks System, Fare Collection Systems, and Maintenance and Operation.

Certified by Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC), the program BET (Hons) in Railway Systemaims to deliver the practical experience of applying engineering technology to railway related issues.

Furthermore, students are encouraged to enhance problem solving and project management, the essential key skills inworking in a multidisciplinary teams as it is a part of a parcel in adapting with the current railway industry practice.

The course will further refine students’ creative thinking skills, interpersonal skills and technical leadership skills.

The focus on practical experience will help students to buildthe required skills in railway system, enhancing its value added core values as industry talents with huge job opportunity.

UniKL is the university partner for Malaysia Rail Industry Collaboration (MARIC),act as one stop centre for registered Malaysia railway companies.

With this, students will have access to participate with industrial projects and internship with more than 40 railway companies.
