SIBU: Renovation works on the hall of ‘ Kelab Melayu Kampung Nyabor’ ( MUC) here will take a year to complete, according to Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He said the state government has given RM1 million for the interior of the hall to get a facelift, adding that works will commence as soon as possible. Renovation works will include extension to both sides of the hall, improving public address ( PA) system, lighting and air- conditioning.

“This hall is used by the Malay community for wedding ceremonies. There are weekly wedding ceremonies at this hall which can accommodate up to 60 tables at any one time.

“Badminton tournaments are also held here. So, it is timely to give MUC hall a facelift,” he added.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public was speaking to reporters after handing over the mock cheque of RM1 million to MUC chairman Anuar Taha here on Saturday night.

“With the extension, hopefully it can accommodate 80 to 100 tables,” he disclosed.

He thanked the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who pledged RM1 million allocation during his brief visit to MUC hall this Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. MUC, the oldest Malay Association in Sarawak celebrated its 84th anniversary this year.
