Some 2,000 academics, non-teaching staff take time off for sports carnival
KUCHING: A total of 17 teams comprising over 2,000 academics and non- teaching staff of the Education Department are taking part in the 46th Nationallevel Pesta Majlis Sukan Dan Kerehatan Perkhidmatan Pelajaran Malaysia ( MSKPPM) 2018 which is being held from Dec 15-21 here.
They will be competing in various events at selected venues in the city. Among the venues for the men’s events are the football fields at UNIMAS A, B, C and D, and SSN Football field Tabuan Jaya, SMK DPHA Gapor Stampin, Padang D PPNS, Padang Jubilee and for the final, it will be at the State Stadium, for the period Dec 17-20.
As for the Women Volleyball, it will be held from December 17-20 at Stadium Datuk Kawada, Tenpin Bowling ( Megalanes Emart Batu Kawah from Dec 1719), Golf ( Damai Golf & Country Club Santubong from Dec 18-20), Cultural (Auditorium Sekolah Seni Malaysia from Dec 1719),Sepak Takraw (Stadium Sepak Takraw Association from Dec 1719), Men’s Volleyball ( Stadium Datuk Kawada from Dec 17-20 and Chess ( Baitulmal Meeting Room, Level 5, Bangunan Majma from Dec 17-19).
The finale and closing ceremony will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) and will be officiated by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Among the objectives of Pesta MSKPPM are to maximise the participation among teachers and non-teaching staff in sports activities, to enhance and strengthen relationships among staff of Education Ministry Malaysia ( KPM) through sporting activities and healthy lifestyle.
Sarawak State Education Director Dr Azhar Ahmad launched the sports carnival themed, ‘Ja’ Berambeh Ngagai Sarawak (Come, visit Sarawak) at Dewan Toh Puan Hajah Masniah, SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg here, yesterday.
Azhar encouraged educators to be involved in sports and cultural activities apart from their roles as academicians.
“I believe through your participation and representing your respective team in this sports and cultural activities, you could strengthen unity not only among the participants but in the context of a multiracial state like Sarawak.
“We in Sarawak welcome all MSKPPM contingents from throughout the country. Sarawak is known as a tourism destination and is not only known among Malaysians but also at the international level. Kuching is the capital city of Sarawak and Kuching is proud to be known as a City of Unity,” said Azhar at the launching ceremony.
