Second Harbour Run raises RM10,000 for local charities

BINTULU: The second Harbour Success Run with more than 1,000 participan­ts at Wisma Harbour yesterday collected RM10,000 for charity.

Harbour Group managing director Dato Francis Yong presented the proceeds to four charitable non- government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs) - Senior Citizen Service Centre, Cleft Lip and Palate Associatio­n of Malaysia, Extra- meal Bintulu and St John Ambulance Malaysia Haemodialy­sis Centre Bintulu after the prize giving ceremony.

“Last yerar’s theme was ‘ Keep moving forward’ while this year’s theme is ‘Sailing Towards Success’.

“It means that Harbour as a reputable corporatio­n wants to keep moving forward and sail towards success,” said Harbour Club president Wesley Chang.

Chan added the run aims to get staff closer to local community while maintainin­g good physical and mental fitness besides helping the less fortunate.

Chan said Harbour Group management understand­s the need to help NGOs with their operating expenses and takes the initiative to fulfil its corporate social responsibi­lity by giving back to the local community.

“We hope that this little contributi­on would provide some assistance for these NGOs to serve those in need,” he said.

The run which was divided into two categories saw Sii Tuong Jing emerged as the champion in the men’s category while second to fifth placing went to Aliff Zaini, Lucas Wong, Goliath and Ling Tai Ming respective­ly.

The top five winners in the women’s category were Hii Win Nie, Joyce Ho Hie Knew, Ma Qin Mei, Christy Anggong and Frances Shoeman respective­ly.

The top five winners in both categories received cash prizes of RM300, RM250, RM200, RM150 and RM100.

On behalf of Harbour- Link, Chan extended his appreciati­on to Bintulu Youth and Sports Office, Bintulu Resident’s Office, Bintulu District Office, and police for their support and thanked all sponsors such as Remix (official apparel partner), Moma water ( official hydration partner), Vico ( chocolate malt beverage drinks), Oiltown Signcraft, including Am familymart, Sing Kwong supermarke­t, NU Hotel and New World Suite.

“I would also like to thank our dedicated staff who worked hard behind the scene,” he concluded.
