Emulate local sports heroes, players urged
KUCHING: Consistent training and high sel f- discipline are among the essential ingredients to become sports champions.
In making this observation, Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan highlighted the most recent achievement of Sarawakian body builder Buda Anchah who clinched the Gold Medal at the 10th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports held in Chiangmai, Thailand from Dec 11-17.
“This is high achievement in which not only Malaysia should be proud of but, in particular Sarawak, being our outstanding athlete and is world class standard. This is a true testimony that any athlete, given the opportunity, time and training could excel well especially in sports,” Snowdan said when met at the Kelab Badminton Kenyalang (KBK) Sarawak Dayak Youth Badminton Talent Camp 2018 at Sentosa Sports Centre here on Saturday.
“In any sports, if you put your mind to it, at the end of the day, it is always a success story,” the Balai Ringin assemblyman said.
Buda is an Iban who hailed from a longhouse in Pantu, Sri Aman division.
“If history serves us well, we have names such as Tania Bugo in swimming, Watson Nyambek, the Flying Dayak then, in athletics followed by Azlan Iskandar in squash, Pandalela Rinong, our diving Olympian and now with Buda in bodybuilding. They all have made Sarawak proud,” said Snowdan.
“The moral of the story here is, do what you think you can do best, get rid of any inferiority complex, if any and keep chasing your dreams” , Snowdan added.
Snowdan of f iciated at the opening ceremony of the KBK programme and he also spoke at length on the need and urgency of athletes, particularly from the Dayak community, to become the pride of fellow Sarawakians before they continue to make a name for themselves at the national and international levels.
