Azizul elected president of Taekwondo M’sia
KUCHING: Sarawakian Azizul Annuar Adenan has been elected as new Taekwondo Malaysia (WTF) president, replacing Senator Dato Sri’ SA Vigneswaran, who has decided not to seek re- election.
Annuar, the son of former Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, won the post in a three- cornered fight during the Taekwondo Malaysia ( TM) election of new off ice bearers for 2018- 2020 recently.
The 27- year- old Azizul has become the first Sarawakian and the youngest person to ever helm the Malaysian taekwondo association.
The new president said he wanted to bring back TM to its glory days, to further improve its status in the sporting fraternity in the country.
One of his challenges will be to bring the sport and the association back into the core sports programme in the country.
“I am also determined to bring all the taekwondo association ( WTF) in the country together as a family and create good relationships with the Education Department, National Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports that will get us back on track to becoming the respected association that we were once,” he said.
He pledged to bring new and bright ideas to the association with improvements in the TM programmes, events and competitions.
He urged all taekwondo associations in Malaysia to stand up together and take the sport into the next level.
“I believe Taekwondo Malaysia have gone from strength to strength in terms of its achievement in the regional and international stage,” he said.
He thanked the delegates for supporting and giving him the mandate to helm TM.
Azizul is no stranger to taekwondo having started in the sport when he was just six years old. He is currently president of Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak.
According to him, taekwondo has taught him values in life which he still holds to this day.
Holding a Black Belt (third dan), he said taekwondo has taught him discipline, respect for elders and teamwork.
“After years of being a taekwondo practitioner I feel that I should give back to taekwondo, a sport which has brought me to where I am today,” he said.
