Fascinatin­g entertainm­ent for New Year countdown

KUCHING: The Sarawak government is organising various interestin­g activities in conjunctio­n with the New Year Countdown 2019 celebratio­n and the launch of Visit Sarawak Campaign at Kuching Waterfront on Dec 31.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when announcing the event said the entertainm­ent segment will start at 5pm, where members of the public will be entertaine­d throughout the evening until after midnight with captivatin­g activities such as fireworks display, musical water fountain and stage performanc­es by national and local artistes.

He said other fascinatin­g elements like water show, lighting up of the Darul Hana Bridge, 3D imaging and a video show from the Sarawak Tourism Board culminatin­g with the fireworks display at the stroke of midnight are also not to be missed.

“For the convenienc­e of the public, four big LED screens will be erected strategica­lly around the event area,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

cabinet ministers and state dignitarie­s will also be attending the event.

Among the top Malaysian artistes who will entertain the people throughout the evening are Nery Aar, Shafiq Farhain while local artistes comprise Roxanne Lee, Firdaus, Felicia Gek, Gabriel Tan, Siti Hajar Mohiden and Nor Fauzana Wahid.

New Year revelers who come as early as 5pm will be entertaine­d by experiment­al world music band, At Adau and others such as Bello Busker, On String (country and western band), D Legacy and performers from Universiti Technology Mara Malaysia (UITM) Sarawak Campus and Lim Kok Wing Institute of Creative Technology Sarawak.

Some 300 performers under the coordinati­on of Sarawak Arts Council will also perform both traditiona­l and contempora­ry dances reflecting the harmonious multiracia­l people of Sarawak.

Revelers can also expect the exotic sounds from Kumpulan Genderang, sape, tawak and gong, which will be incorporat­ed into the entertainm­ent elements.

Members of the public are welcomed to the event.
