MIRI: Some 2,000 people are expected to take part in a charity ‘ Run for Insurance’ at Miri City Fan on Feb 24 next year.

The run is organised by the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors ( Namlifa) Miri branch.

Organising chairman Abdul Rahman Masudi said the running event is held in conjunction with the Finance Carnival by Bank Negara Malaysia on Feb 23 – 24, 2019.

“We expect some 2,000 runners in the event to be held at Miri City Fan at 6am, thus bringing the important message of insurance protection to the public.

“At the same time, we also welcome sponsorships for this inaugural event,” he said in a media conference yesterday.

Abdul Rahman said part of the proceeds from the run would be donated to three charitable organisations.

They are Palliative Care Association of Miri, Children Cancer Society and Miri Red Crescent Dialysis Centre.

“Bank Negara Malaysia has since set the insurance penetration goal at 75 per cent by 2020. Currently Malaysia’s life insurance penetration rate is only at 56 per cent while Family Takaful’s penetration is trailing behind at 14.8 per cent.

“Thus, the objective of Run for Insurance is to remind the public on the importance of insurance protection for families.”

He said the event is divided into three different categories; 3km fun run with registration fee at RM50 per person, 5km run (RM55) and 10km run ( RM60) as well as a category for family which charged at RM30 per entry.
