Man electrocuted to death while fishing

-

KUCHING: A man was found dead at a site in Taman Sinar Serapi, along Jalan Sungai Tengah Matang here last Saturday.

The victim was identified as 29-year- old Kashirin Anis, from Kampung Sungai Tengah Matang.

In confirming this case yesterday, Padawan District deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said the man was found in a 1.5m- deep ditch at the residential area.

He said police received a distress call from a member of the public at 8.48pm.

“The police were informed that a man was found dead (inside a ditch) at Lorong 1C, Taman Sinar Serapi.

“He was clad in a yellow T-shirt and black shorts,” said Merbin, adding that his men also found several disconnected power cables inside the ditch – with post number ‘14, T2, B3200’.

He said upon initial examination on the body, police saw burn marks on the left elbow, which could be the indication that the man had been electrocuted.

Merbin said his men found no sign of foul play at the scene – the case was classified as ‘sudden death’.

“The body has been taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem, to determine the cause of death.”

The victim’s brother had told police that Kashirin went there at 4.15pm to fish and he was alone at the time.

“It was the victim’s cousin who found the body, around 6.30pm,” said Merbin.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department said they were informed of the incident at 8.42pm.

Firefighters from the Petra Jaya station, who were despatched to the scene, had sought help from Sarawak Energy Bhd to disconnect the power supply there, to enable them take the body out of the ditch.
