Lee proposes new central police station for Miri

-

MIRI: There is a need to have a new central police station (CPS) here to replace the existing building which has been serving the people since the 1950s.

In making this suggestion, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the existing CPS building is old.

“I’ve brought this matter to the ministry concerned many times but so far we are yet to receive any feedback.

“Being a city since 2005, Miri deserves to have a new CPS which is not only to provide more conducive and pleasant workplace for the police but also to give good impression to the locals as well as the tourists visiting the city,” he stated when officiating at a reunion dinner for police personnel who had served in Miri at Imperial Palace Hotel on Saturday.

The Senadin assemblyman promised that he would continue to bring up this matter to make the wish a reality.

He said the police play an important role in maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law as well as preventing, detecting and investigating criminal activities.

“Besides effective policing services, the resort city ( Miri) also needs support from the police to ensure the safety of tourists in the city.

“Thus, the police indeed deserve to enjoy a workplace that is conducive.”

To the police retirees, he thanked them for their contributions and urged them to share their valuable experiences in policing with the community.

“During the old days, police personnel worked under difficult situations as there was not much development.

“The police personnel today are considered lucky because there are a lot of facilities that help them in their policing services. Thus, there is a need for those who had retired to share their policing experiences with the junior officers.”

The dinner was jointly organised by Ex-Police Association of Miri, Miri Division Tennis Association and Matu Daro Community Association of Miri.

Present were Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department ( CID) director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin who was the patron of the reunion dinner, Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah and organising chairman Han Hipeni.
