‘RM14,500 in compounds issued for 99 offences’
MIRI: Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Miri office has issued compounds totalling RM14,500 for 99 offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 this year throughout the division.
Assistant enforcement officer Sayed Mohd Nizam Sayed Sahari said they had also seized goods worth some RM17,000 from the traders.
“Throughout the operation, we had inspected a total of 8,608 business premises – 8,467 in the urban areas and the remaining in rural areas.
“Compared to last year, there was an increase of 18 cases under the same Act.
“We will continue with the enforcement operation to ensure that business premises owners strictly adhere to the trade act,” he told the media before inspecting the Price Control Scheme at Christmas at Boulevard Hypermarket & Departmental Store here yesterday.
He said the scheme enforced from yesterday until Dec 27 this year covers 16 essential items.
He called on traders to adhere to the scheme and not sell the controlled items above the maximum price fixed by the ministry.
The price- controlled items comprise various categories of chicken, eggs, chicken wings, imported turkey, mutton, chicken eggs, tomatoes, green sweet pepper and pork.
The scheme has been implemented since 2000 under the Price Control and AntiProfiteering Act, 2011.
