KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Kampung Paya Mebi Social and Welfare Bureau continues to play its role in alleviating the burden of the needy by donating a wheelchair to a patient with kidney failure.

The contribution was handed over by its chairman Shamsudin Unai to the patient Haryati Mohd Wasir during the ‘ Program Bantuan Kasih’ held at the village near here on Saturday.

According to Shamsudin, 47year- old Haryati from the village has been unable to walk for the past four years due to kidney failure.

“We hope that this wheelchair will enable Haryati to move around and thus lighten the burden of her family,” he said when met at the event which was held at the village’s multi-purpose hall.

He also revealed that Haryati is also coincidently the mother of Nur Harfidawilla Mohd Sulaiman, one of those injured in an explosion at NeNe Chicken in CityONE Megamall earlier this month.

Nur Harfidawilla is currently warded at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) with severe burns to her face and hands.

Since it was set up in 2006, the bureau has contributed wheelchairs to the disabled, elderly as well as donated food to the poor in the village.

Apart from that, it also provides schooling assistance to students from poor and underprivileged families.

“We will continue to carry out charitable activities in line with our objective of fostering the spirit of caring, solidarity and harmony among the multi-racial community in Sarawak,” said Shamsudin.
