Good Samaritans help five needy families ahead of Christmas

KUCHING: Five needy families from Serian received donations from a group of local Good Samaritans recently, ahead of the Christmas celebratio­n.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw, who brought together these Good Samaritans, said they pooled funds to buy food items, including rice, to help reduce the financial burden of these families.

The donations were handed over to a representa­tive Mark Mado, who would then distribute the items to the families living in Kampung Sebemban and Kampung Mantung Marau.

Lim thanked a Law and his family from Foochow Road No 2, Fook Lai Constructi­on in Batu Kawah New Township, Hii and Chia from Jalan Matang, as well as other individual­s for their assistance in this latest charity act.

“I have lived in poverty and hardship in my younger years, and understand their plight. I hope what we gave would reduce their burden.

“We believe in helping the needy, irrespecti­ve of race or creed,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel who is now devoted to charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082-248 153 / 016- 8070 388, to assist poor families acquire coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.

According to him, cash donation from Good Samaritans are ‘ parked’ at a coffin shop in the city, to be used whenever a genuine request is received.

Lim also reminded the public that he can only be reached at his fixed and mobile phone lines but not on social media.

So far, ‘coffin’ assistance has been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

“Mark ( Mado) told me that this assistance had brought relief to the affected families. He knows since he has helped get coffins for some families in Serian,” added Lim.
