Md Dali looks forward to constructive criticisms

SHAH A L A M : Fo o tba l l Association of Malaysia ( FAM) Referees’ Committee chairman ACP Md Dali Wahid is open to any constructive criticism from football fans towards improving the quality of refereeing in the Malaysian League next season.

Md Dali, who took over the post from Subkhiddin Salleh, who had stepped down, conceded that the post was a duty which must be shouldered in the best possible way as referees played a very important role in deciding the best outcome in any situation during a match.

“To me, a wrong is still a wrong, and sometimes we have to accept criticisms from netizens and we make an improvement.

“We know what our role is as a referee and we don’t have to be afraid. I am confident if we are sincere, honest and know our responsibility, we will be able to carry out the task correctly,’’ he said when met by reporters during the 2018 FAM referees and referee evaluators’ annual dinner at a hotel here Saturday night.

Commenting further, Md Dali admitted some referees made inaccurate decisions in the Malaysia League competition this season, but advised them to avoid making the same mistakes this season.

“We always endeavour to do our best and minimise our mistakes for our duties in 2019 which is a challenge to referees in Malaysia.

“We are not saying our referees are low class because our level of refereeing is still good, but mistakes always happen and I have told the FAM Refereeing Unit chief to seek to reduce mistakes and improve our service,’’ he said.

In the meantime, he announced t hat t he FAM Refereeing Committee had given the green light to 58 referees for the league competitions next month, adding that the number might increase depending on the number of matches that would be played.

Subkhiddin prior to this had made a shocking decision by stepping down from all posts he held in the parent body including as an exco immediately early this month.

He was said to have made the decision following condemnations from netizens against his family following weak refereeing by Suresh Jayaraman at the 2018 Malaysia Cup final match between Perak and Terengganu FC (TFC) on Oct 27. — Bernama
