Rapper in hot water for offensive remark about a foreign TV show guest

-

SEOUL: Rapper DinDin is under fire for describing a Swedish TV show guest as “white and bald.”

Many netizens have complained about DinDin’s remark about Jakob Loevig Minell, who appeared on the Thursday episode of “Welcome! First Time in Korea?” with his friends on MBC Every1.

While sharing his memories with three friends from his home country, Minell said he drank a bottle of Tabasco for the money his friend offered and he could not leave the bathroom for two days after that.

In response, Shin A-young, one of the hosts, said, “If you do such a thing, people who are not that close to you would forever remember you as the Tabasco man.”

Agreeing with her, DinDin added, “That white and bald guy.”

Dozens of viewers found the remark offensive and left complaints on the program’s website.

“That was a really rude remark - why would you use such racist remarks during a show that (mainly) features foreign tourists?” one person said.

Another netizen wrote, “It might have been a joke, but it could have hurt the feelings of the person who heard it.”

For those not familiar with this name, Vancouver native DinDin is a rapper who made his presence known to Korean music fans when he auditioned and subsequently performed on the 2nd season of Mnet’s hit hiphop variety show “Show Me The Money” last year.
