MIRI: Interesting activities have been lined up by the Miri City Council ( MCC) for the launch of Miri Night Market at Brooke Road here this Dec 31.

According to event organising spokesperson Councillor Kueh Chie Tiong, this new trading area is located within the city’s Central Market and Unity Market.

“The (night) market will operate everyweekend–FridaystoSaturday, from 5pm to 11pm daily.

“However in conjunction with the launch, we have decided to extend the operation days, from Dec 28 up to New Year’s Eve, where the countdown celebration will take place,” he told reporters at the MCC Chamber meeting room yesterday, where the council held its press conference on the launch of Miri Night Market.

It is known that the city’s night market at Brooke Road was very popular during the 1970s.

This, said Kueh, was why MCC wanted to revive the night market, which would make the area there livelier than it was before.

He pointed out that the standing committee comprising representatives of MCC, the traders and the hawker, as well as the tourism development standing committee, would work closely with one another to make the night market another successful tourism product for Miri.

On the launch ceremony, Kueh said it would commence around 6.30pm, followed by a singing competition and other series of performances.

The MCC would also announce the names of winners of its ‘Assessment Rate 2018’ lucky draw, and held the prize presentation afterwards.

There are still vacant trading lots at the Miri Night Market and those interested, can obtain the application forms from the council.

The (night) market will operate every weekend – Fridays to Saturday, from 5pm to 11pm daily. Councillor Kueh Chie Tiong, event organising spokesperson
