Parade at Pulapol Kuching involves 701 recruits

-

KUCHING: A total of 701 police recruits took part in a parade held at the police training centre ( Pulapol) along Jalan Borneo Heights near here yesterday.

According to a Pulapol spokesman, the recruits from the third and seventh series of the programme had undergone the six-month basic training at the centre simultaneously.

The parade was held to mark the end of training for 359 recruits from the third series, who trained from July 1 to Dec 29 this year; the remaining recruits are from the seventh series, who kicked off their training on Aug 12 this year, and their programme would conclude on Feb 9 next year.

“We are having the parade for recruits from these two series. The recruits under the seventh series would continue with the programme until Feb 9 next year,” said the Pulapol spokesman.

Penang police chief commissioner of Police Datuk Seri Thaiveegan Arumugam, who represented Inspector General of Police ( IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, officiated at the closing ceremony.

In his remarks, Thaiveegan urged the new police constables to carry out their duties responsibly and with dedication, pointing out that the reputation of the force must be protected at all times.

“The Malaysian police force, which has been in existence for over 200 years, must be protected well. Therefore it is very important that you all carry out your duties with full dedication and sincerity.

“You must not get involved in unhealthy activities like corruption because our organisation is being closely monitored by the people, the media, and also the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC),” he said.

Thaiveegan said the task of the police in looking after the safety and security of the people, who are now more educated and demanding, is not easy and simple.

“All of you (the recruits who have completed their training) have a long way to go in your career – at least 40 years of service – before going for compulsory retirement; therefore, serve with dedication,” he advised.
