Initial assessment of sustainable development goals indicators released
KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has released a report on ‘’The Initial Assessment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Indicators for Malaysia, 2018”, the first publication which presents the results of the assessment on the availability SDGs indicators at the Malaysian level.
The publication is in line with Malaysia’s commitment, along with 193 countries, which expressed support and realised the implementation of 2030 sustainable agenda during the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, a statement from DOSM said.
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin was quoted as saying that the SDGs indicators covered 17 Goals, 169 targets and 244 indicators to measure the achievement of universal development which comprised social, economic and environmental aspects.
He said 118 indicators ( 48 per cent) were available, 55 indicators (23 per cent) partially available, 36 indicators (15 per cent) partially available but need further development, 23 indicators (9 per cent) not available and 12 indicators ( 5 per cent) not relevant.

“Thus, the availability of these SDGs indicators is fundamental in measuring and monitoring the country’s position in order to be always on the right track to achieve the 2030 sustainable development goals. — Bernama
