Our GPS government will determine our own progress, our own prosperity and our own destiny. Under the wise leadership of our Chief Minister, we have raised the bar, and I am very confident we will continue to do so, in our own development efforts and prosperity level.

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has issued a New Year statement calling for Sarawakians to continue giving their strong support to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

He said GPS under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is a Sarawak based political alliance led by Sarawakian leaders advocating ‘Sarawak First’ policy.

“Our GPS government will determine our own progress, our own prosperity and our own destiny. Under the wise leadership of our Chief Minister, we have raised the bar, and I am very confident we will continue to do so, in our own development efforts and prosperity level,” he added.

According to Uggah, 2018 has indeed been most challenging for Sarawakians as soon after the 14th general election when

the PH government took over the federal government, Sarawakians have been treading on very unfamiliar ground.

With the GPS government, Sarawak’s own progress, prosperity and destiny will be determined by Sarawakians, he said.

“This can be seen when Sarawak has an unprecedented budget of RM11 billion for 2019.”

Uggah sees 2019 as a hectic year when development programmes will be implemented to uplift the people’s livelihood and transform Sarawak.

“Meanwhile along the way Sarawak has also formed the Sarawak Petroleum Berhad ( Petros) in March, 2018 and in November, 2017 Sarawak set up the Development Bank of Sarawak ( DBoS), which are among a few of Sarawak’s major accomplishments.”

Uggah also commented that it is Sarawak’s absolute pride in declaring that Sarawak is leading the nation in honouring religious freedom because the state has the Unit For Other Religions ( Unifor) to help other religions besides Islam to grow.

“Unifor provides funds for the construction or upgrading of the various houses of worship, obtains land for their construction and others and for 2019 Unifor has been allocated RM30 million. In 2018, it was given RM20 million to carry out over 231 projects,” he said.

Uggah also informed that the MA63 negotiation was on- going and the Sarawak government had not run out of steam.

“As a matter of fact, Sarawak has local members from the opposition parties to sit in its negotiation committee.

“This is an indication of Sarawak’s unity where and when Sarawak’s interest is at stake and of our love for the state.”
