Resident committee nabs couple in close proximity

-

MIRI: A couple was caught for close proximity or ‘ khalwat’ in a car by Pujut Resident Committee (JKP) at Jalan Peninsular in Pulau Melayu here early Saturday morning.

The JKP team was patrolling the neighbourhood around 1.55am on Saturday after receiving complaints from residents over frequent theft incidents.

While patrolling the area, the team saw a car parked in a dark area and immediately became suspicious of the vehicle.

JKP spokesperson Malateh Mahmud said when they got near the car, they were surprised to see a couple inside the car.

“When we checked, we realised they were the same couple we caught before for khalwat.

“This was their second time, therefore we referred them to the relevant authority for further action,” he said.

The couple has been referred to Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (Jais) for further action.

It is learnt that the man is married with four children while the woman is single.
