Chalet to be built in Sebuyau as ‘pit stop’ for travellers

-

SEBUYAU: A chalet will be built here for completion by end of this year.

The RM10-million project, that also covers the cost of land acquisition and consultancy fees, sits on 6.5 hectares of land. It is part of a project within Sebuyau New Township.

It was approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on November 2017 when he officiated at the launching of Sebuyau New Township.

Speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony on Saturday, Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the construction of the chalet would further benefit the locals and promote Sebuyau, being located strategically along the coastal road, as a ‘ pit stop’ for people from the southern and northern parts of the state using the coastal road.

“The chalet in Sebuyau will also become a Rest and Recreational centre for the people from the northern and southern parts of the state who travel using the coastal road. Such a facility will also greatly benefit the locals to promote and sell their products, thus uplifting their socio- economy,” Julaihi pointed out.

According to Julaihi, the construction of the project would also help to promote tourism in the area considering that the area has several tourist attractions, including Sebuyau National Park at the upper Sebuyau river and crocodile watching.

He said a jetty with safety features would also be built as part of the chalet project for crocodile watching and fishing.

“The construction of the chalet will take into account the preservation of the environment and the natural habitat to promote tourism in the area,” Julaihi added.

He also said once completed, the chalet would provide job opportunities to the locals, who would be given priority and a place for them to sell local delicacies and agricultural products.

Among the facilities of the chalet will be a lobby, meeting room, restaurant, multi-purpose hall and office, he added.

He urged the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated 12 months.
