Public wants swift action to fix pothole, uneven road

-

MIRI: A large pothole and uneven road surface between the traffic light junction at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn (in front of Taman Tunku) heading to SJKC Chung San Miri pose serious problems to road users.

Members of the public want Miri City Council ( MCC) to take immediate action, with a complainant who wished to be identified only as Loke telling The Borneo Post that countless complaints had been made since the end of December last year through phone calls and emails with the Talikhidmat portal.

“The pothole which has been there for more than a month is getting bigger. I use this road every day to bring my children to school and to go to work.

Most vehicles avoid the pothole causing the single- lane road near a school to be very congested. This is serious because it affects students’ safety,” he said.

Loke said that he had called the city council’s engineering section to enquire about the matter and was told rudely that the matter ‘is in progress’ as there is ‘no budget to fix’.

“We, taxpayers pay our dues on time. Civil servants should not take matters that could pose danger to the public lightly,” he said in disappointment.

He added that Miri Mayor Adam Yii must take note of the matter and ensure that all relevant departments do their jobs accordingly.
