Motorcycli­st dies of injuries after collision with SUV

KUCHING: A man was killed in a crash at KM66 of Jalan Sri AmanSarike­i early yesterday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigat­ion and Enforcemen­t Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the man was identified as a 25-year- old villager from Rumah Empading Bunu Skrang in Engkilili.

He was riding a motorcycle and was heading to Sri Aman when the accident occurred around 7.30am, he said.

Initial investigat­ion indicated that the motorcycli­st might have attempted to overtake a car in front of him, but later lost control of his machine, which collided with a sports-utility vehicle (SUV) on the opposite lane.

Paramedics, who were despatched to the scene following a distress call, rushed the motorcycli­st to Betong Hospital, but he later succumbed to severe injuries.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.

Separately, a 25-year- old man is now in critical condition after he was involved in another motorcycle- car accident at Jalan Tun Razak here on Sunday.

It is said that the motorcycli­st, who was from Kampung Tanjung in Petra Jaya, was making his way to a sports centre at Jalan Wan Alwi when accident struck near an intersecti­on there around 9pm.

The impact from the crash caused him to sustain serious head and body injuries.

At the moment, he is placed at the Red Zone of Sarawak General Hospital.
