Blood on ceiling leads to shocking find for shop owner

-

MARUDI: A senior citizen was found dead inside his rented room at a shop house here yesterday morning.

The body of the 65-year- old was discovered after the owner of a coffee shop on the ground floor of the building saw blood dripping down the ceiling.

Upon seeing this, he alerted the landlord, who went to check and found the decomposing body.

Police arrived at the scene to investigate after being notified and later, transported the body to Marudi Hospital for post-mortem.

No foul play is suspected and the case has been classified as sudden death, pending the result from post-mortem.

It is learned that the elderly man, who was a bachelor, had been renting the room for the past nine years. He made a living by making and selling fish ‘keropok’ (crackers), and could be seen waiting for fishermen from central Baram every morning to buy his choice of fish for the ‘keropok’.

The man was last seen last Thursday, when the wife of the coffee shop owner noticed that he had some swellings on his face – possibly due to a fall.
