Ministry emphasises creative industry in S’wak
KUCHING: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry emphasises the creative industry in Sarawak through the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia, Sarawak, Minister Gobind Singh Deo said yesterday.
The initiative is among the six national thrusts of the ministry in enhancing the delivery of information and content services in each of its agencies this year, he said.
Gobind said the creative industry played an important role in portraying the uniqueness of Sarawak and did not focus only on Kuala Lumpur.
“Sarawak, with a population of 2.4 million, will surely have people out there with latent creative ideas and talents in producing good content,” he said at the delivery of the ministry’s message at the P. Ramlee Auditorium here.
Hence, he said, the ministry had asked Finas to begin the pitching process here and identify people involved in producing films, short stories, documentaries and so on

This is Gobind’s maiden working visit to Sarawak after his appointment as the Communications and Multimedia Minister last May.
Gobind said he wanted agencies under the ministry here, namely Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, the Malaysian National News Agency ( Bernama) and the Information Department, to deliver quality and up- to- date services.
“In the delivery of information, RTM, Bernama and the Information Department must be effective, ensure accurate information is channelled to the people, and ensure that the message is the same as in the original context,” he said.
About 300 staff of agencies under the ministry, namely the Information Department, RTM, Bernama, Finas, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MCMC), Telekom Malaysia and Pos Malaysia, attended the event.
