MIRI: Some RM6 billion worth of ‘ people- centric’ projects are currently in various stages of implementation, according to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He says the 324 projects covering infrastructure, utilities, agriculture and housing are on track – something that all Sarawakians can look forward to. Moreover, he adds that the projects, worth RM6.2 billion, are in various stages of implementation, ranging from the design stage to those already being carried out on the ground.

“These projects include those under RTP (Rural Transformation Project), rural water supply worth RM 2.8 billion, and rural electricity supply worth RM2.37 billion. They are all on schedule,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Abang Johari pointed out that among the high-impact projects included roads and bridges that would improve rural connectivity and complement the Pan Borneo Highway, currently being constructed.

“These new roads and bridges will also help open up new areas of economic growth through modern technology-aided agriculture,” he added.

Earlier, the chief minister attended a progress report briefing by a number of ministries – namely Local Government and Housing; Utilities; Infrastructure and Transportation; and Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development.

Abang Johari also launched a booklet of 65 initiatives undertaken by the Sarawak government since he was appointed chief minister two years ago.
