KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Muk Ayun, a village in the deep interior of the Padawan area got more than what they requested from Hope Place Kuching.

Initially, the village headman Taser Kun’nut contacted the local non- governmental organisation ( NGO) to request for solar panels for the village church building.

However, Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan wanted to do more . He gathered more volunteers to help him bring other assistance to the villagers.

Apart from Hope Place staff, 50 volunteers who went to Kampung Muk Ayun recently also included Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and a group of doctors, dentists, pharmacists, technicians, sponsors and members of Kuching Hornbill Adventure 4x4 Club.

The group travelled to the village on board 20 four-wheel drive vehicles.

According to Wan, the visit was part of Hope Place’s ‘Giving Hope, Sharing Love’ ( GHSL) project.

“Although it was only a day trip, the journey was far from easy or fast. The village is quite far from Padawan town. It was about five hours drive along the off-road trail to reach Kampung Muk Ayun from the 10th Mile bazaar along Kuching-Serian Road.

“This year, Hope Place is blessed with good fortune and is grateful for a number of sponsors and volunteers who contribute to GHSL, despite such a short notice.

“During the visit, the team also gave belated Christmas gifts to the children in the village, thanks to the generosity of numerous donors,” he said.

Apart from installing solar light panels on the church building, the volunteers also ran a health screening session with dental check- ups for the villagers who also received food aid from the sponsors.

“Hope Place wishes to thank the volunteers and sponsors for their passion and dedication.

“They have truly shared their blessings with the villagers.

“We also appreciate the technicians who installed the solar light panels and helped made this expedition a success,” said Wan.
