MoE’s decision on diesel for aided schools welcomed
SIBU: The Ministry of Education’s ( MOE) decision to continue supplying diesel to 21 government- aided schools ( SBK) in Sarawak has been welcomed by Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.
He said the decision is important to ensure that the teachinglearning process in these schools would not be interrupted.
“I welcome this decision to continue the supply. Irrespective of what school it is, the federal government should help because it will be unfair for the children of these schools not to have electricity supply,” he said yesterday in response to the MoE’s statement on Tuesday.
“We at state level are looking forward to working together with the federal government when it comes to education matters. And we believe education should not be politicised, especially when it concerns the school infrastructure, where all Malaysians, especially students, should be treated fairly.”
MoE had said the schools would continue to be supplied with diesel because they are located in remote areas not connected to the electricity grid.
Meanwhile, Dr Annuar visited SK St Mary on Monday to hand over a minor rural project grant to replace 430 desks and chairs.
He said all the desks and chairs for the nine primary and three secondary schools in Nangka constituency would be replaced in stages.
“We started with SK Abang Ali last year as it is one of the oldest schools here and replaced 800 units of old desks and chairs with modern ones. This exercise helps to provide a more conducive learning environment for school children,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
He added that a desk and chair set costs about RM300 and when the exercise is completed, the furniture in all schools in Nangka would be standardised.
Earlier, Dr Annuar also handed over an RM2.5 million cheque from the Sarawak government to SK Abang Ali on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the construction of a new school block.
SK Abang Ali Alumni Association chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie received the cheque on the school’s behalf.
Construction work on the new block has started.
