MIRI: Laku Management Sdn Bhd will always strive to improve water pressure and supply to meet the increasing water demand, said its newly appointed chief operating officer ( COO) Ir Franklin Ucar.

“For the northern part of Miri, we have our 800mm diameter pipeline project which is near completion that would help the consumers in the areas of Senadin and Baram onwards especially during peak hours.

“For the southern part meanwhile, there is one project undertaken by the Rural Water Supply Department ( JBALB) which is the construction of the reservoir at Jalan Hills here and I understand it is 30 per cent completed,” he said during the press conference at its office here yesterday, adding the raw water transfer project from Batang Baram to Sg Liku was still in the tendering stage and would be implemented by JBALB.

Franklin was appointed the new COO of Laku Management on February 1 this year.

He has 25 years of working experience, including senior positions in reputable local companies within Malaysia and internationally.

He expressed his appreciation to the previous Laku COO Wong Tiong Kai, saying most of the plans were made by Wong prior to his retirement end of January this year.

For the northern part of Miri, we have our 800mm diameter pipeline project which is near completion that would help the consumers in the areas of Senadin and Baram onwards especially during peak hours. Franklin Ucar, Laku Management Sdn Bhd chief operating officer

manager Ha Tung Ngie said the RM14- million 800mm diameter pipeline project from Padang Kerbau to Emart Tudan is an in-house project by Laku and is expected to be completed by first half of this year.

“The main purpose of this project is to increase the water pressure to Desa Senadin, Desa Pujut, Jalan Tudan and the surrounding areas because during peak hours the water pressure is very low and this is our long-term solution.

“The Jalan Hills project under JBALB meanwhile is to increase our storage capacity and it will be the back-up in case there is a pipe burst or some sort,” he said, adding there are about 69,100 consumers in Miri with 80 per cent being domestic users.

Laku urged the public to not listen to rumours of any kind and instead to check with their 24- hour customer service line at 085- 436626/426626 ( Miri) or 086- 318160 ( Bintulu) or 085- 215633 ( Limbang) or visit Laku website at www. lakumanagement. com. my for confirmation.
