RM50,000 allocation to help SK Batu Lintang upgrade facilities

-

KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii recently presented a RM50,000 allocation to SK Batu Lintang here to help it repair, renovate, and upgrade school facilities for the benefit of its students, teachers and other staff.

He said the improved facilities will provide a conducive and optimum learning environment to enable the students to get the best education quality.

A press release said Dr Yii visited the school recently to inspect the projects there.

The allocated sum helped in the building of an awning and a new roof connecting the principal’s office/teachers’ room to the canteen block.

“So now the teachers and students can walk between the different blocks without getting wet when it rains. This also includes repair work on the roof of the whole block to stop water leakage in the staff room and office.

“I have paid a few courtesy visits to the school and spoke to the headmistress Puan Sa’diah Bakar and teachers to find out about their needs and concerns and how best we could work with them to provide a better environment for the students.

“That was when I was alerted on the bad condition of the roof in that particular area and how it leaks everytime it rains. On top of that, the zinc for the old awning from that particular block connecting the canteen was rusty and could not be used anymore,” Dr Yii added.

“The upgrading works were actually completed about a month before but we personally came to inspect and get feedback from the headmistress to see if there are any leaks or other issues regarding the upgrades.

“We hope it (upgrading) will help provide a better and conducive environment for both students and teachers. Education has always been close to my heart and I have been to most schools within our constituency to find out the needs and ways we can help with any upgrades, repairs or renovations so that the safety and security of teachers and students will not be jeopardised,” he said.
