Court remands four on suspicion of drug abuse
MIRI: Four individuals, one of whom is a woman, arrested on suspicion of abusing dangerous drugs were ordered by a Magistrates’ Court here yesterday to be remanded for three days.
The suspects aged between 24 and 48 were ordered to be remanded at the Miri Central police station lockup under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Assistant investigating officer Sgt Dayang Fadzillah Ramlee said acting on information received, a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Miri led by S/Insp Bakar Drahman raided a Jalan Brooke budget hotel at 6.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 19).
Police detained the four individuals in a hotel room on suspicion of drug abuse.
During a body search, the police did not find any illegal items on the suspects but when inspecting the room, they found a transparent plastic packet containing a crystal-like substance believed to methamphetamine with an estimated weight of 0.96 grams on the bed. Police seized the packet and all the suspects were brought to NCID Miri for further action.
Urine tests found all the suspects positive for drugs and they were arrested under Section 12 (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and drug abuse.
Dayang Fadzillah had sought a four-day remand order on all four suspects to enable the police to carry out a thorough investigation.
However, Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad only allowed a three- day remand, which will end tomorrow ( Feb 23).
