STF, STB host ‘Lao Yee Shang’ do at tHe Spring shopping mall

KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) in collaborat­ion with Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak, recently held a ‘Lao Yee Shang’ ceremony at the Spring Shopping Mall here.

The ceremony was part of STF’s Chinese New Year celebratio­n in conjunctio­n with Visit Sarawak – Open House Campaign.

Its objective was to allow everyone, regardless of race and religion in a multi-racial community to celebrate and experience the Chinese New Year celebratio­n, together with guests and visitors from abroad.

Everyone had the opportunit­y to be a part of the warmth and unique hospitalit­y of Sarawak, through the open house and ‘Lao Yee Shang’ ceremony.

The celebratio­n was divided into two parts – ‘Open House’ visits and ‘Lao Yee Shang’ ceremony which symbolises the promotion of togetherne­ss, united and mutual understand­ing between one another.

Throughout the ceremony, various Chinese ethnic groups in Sarawak, including the Hokkien, Hakka, Foo Chow, Hainan, Heng Hua, Teo Chew and Cantonese showcased their traditiona­l delicacies, as well as their dialects.

Visitors and guests had the opportunit­y to taste the local Chinese delicacies while learning their unique dialects.

STF collaborat­ed with Nobel Regent to raise RM1,326 during the 3-hour event for two charity bodies - Wishesland Internatio­nal and Sarawak Society for the Deaf.

STF thanked The Spring Shopping Mall, 24 Seasons Drums Troupe, David Tay ( Head of Merchant, BOOST), Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs),and UCSI University for the success of the event.
