Celebrate Rotary Day with Rotarians worldwide tomorrow

KUCHING: Rotarians along with families, friends and nonRotaria­ns will celebrate Rotary Day internatio­nally tomorrow ( Feb 23).

Rotary Internatio­nal Assistant Governor 2018- 2019, Group 17, District 3310 Wilson Tan Swee Kwang said Rotary is a membership service organisati­on with over 110 years of history that brings a network of 1.2 million volunteers from more than 200 countries and geographic­al areas to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitari­an challenges with the motto ‘Service Above Self’.

Rotarians work impact lives at local and internatio­nal levels, from helping local families in need to working towards a poliofree world.

“Rotary carries a mission to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understand­ing, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, profession­al, and community leaders,” said Tan.

More than 35,000 clubs work together to carry the six areas of focus, which are Promote peace, Fight disease, Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, Save mothers and children, Support education, and Grow local economies.

To Rotarians, every contributi­on counts and engages teenagers from the age of 12 to 18 through Interact Clubs in secondary schools, young adults from the age of 18 to 30 through Rotaract Clubs in colleges, universiti­es and local communitie­s and Rotarians with stable vocation.

There are 535 districts in Rotary. District 3310 is a special district which comprises Malaysia ( Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor), Singapore and Brunei.

Kuching is in District 3310 (Group 17) with five clubs; Rotary Club of Kuching, Rotary Club of Kuching Central, Rotary Club of Kuching Jaya, Rotary Club of Kuching South and the newly establishe­d Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City.

Rotary Day which celebrates the contributi­ons of Rotary will be officiated by Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at CityONE Megamall Kuching at 11 am, accompanie­d by the Assistant Governor of Group 17 District 3310 and the presidents of all the five clubs.

During the day, the clubs in Kuching will hold a health screening and health talk in CityONE Megamall. The evening celebratio­n will gather at Chemsains, Jalan Rock with performanc­es. For tickets priced at RM 50 each, the public may contact Nicholas, Rotary Club of Kuching at 012- 882 0923.
