New weekend Farmers Market opens

-

KUCHING: The weekend Pasar Tamu ( Farmers Market) organised by Biperoh Association Kuching ( BAK) provides a place for the Bidayuh Biperoh clan to do business and sell their farm produce.

BAK’s president Mangan Ngandok said this while kicking off the three- day market today until Feb 24 at the association’s multi-purpose hall at the junction of Kampung Garung, Borneo Heights Road, about 40 km from here.

He reminded those interested to operate stalls to be present at the site on Friday afternoon for registration, briefing and collection of canopies provided by the association.

Stall operators need not pay any fees but they have to bring their own tables and chairs.

A lot of fun and prizes await visitors to the weekend market with the official launching to be officiated by Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil tomorrow ( Feb 23) at 10 am.

He added that in conjunction with the launch, a live band will perform in the evening.

A variety of products including food and beverages, farm produce, handicraft and fresh fish are on sale at 30 stalls.

“The market is among various activities planned by the Biperoh Association Kuching for the nine Bidayuh Biperoh villages along the Borneo Heights Road.

“We really hope that the weekend market would receive good response,” said Mangan.

He said this is one way to get the Biperoh involved in business and economic activities to earn extra income.
