Surveyors can now use these technologies to do surveying jobs, rather than relying on conventional methods which not only takes time, but also can result in mistakes.

KUCHING: The evolution of new surveying technology over the last 10 year has made it possible for surveys to be done faster and more accurately compared to conventional methods.

The Survey Shop Sdn Bhd technical director James Bong said his company has all the latest technology for surveyors to carry out their job more efficiently.

“Surveyors can now use these technologies to do surveying jobs, rather than relying on conventional methods which not only takes time, but also can result in mistakes.

“If surveyors make mistakes, it affects cost and can lead to disputes and problems in implementing the project, which is one of the reasons why we come across a lot of ‘sick’ projects,” he said during the Topcon Technology Roadshow 2019 held here on Wednesday.

The roadshow, attended by about 100 representatives from government agencies, the private sector, construction companies, surveying fi rms and also students from higher learning institutions, introduced the latest technologies to help licensed surveyors in the state and to assist the government in carrying out surveying works faster than conventional ways.

The latest surveying technologies, he explained, are not only efficient but also provide visuals such as 3D images for designers to see and design, and to make sure that works are carried out not only faster, but also with quality.

Among the technologies offered by The Survey Shop is the Parrot ANAFI drone which, according to Bong, is the new generation of drones that is the ideal go- to solution in producing high-quality videos and taking outstanding photos.

Another technology is the Spectra Precision QM55 Indoor Laser 50m whose features include area, volume and Pythagoras functions for indirect measurements.

“If you are to do the survey in a conventional way, it will take you months to do it but with new technologies, you need not worry on the quality, accuracy and the speed.

“The Sarawak government is adopting all these new technologies and they are very open with these technologies. In fact, they encouraged us to use these technologies.

They can be pricy but for longterm benefits, they are worth it,” he said.
