Socso hands over benefits to contributo­rs

BINTULU: The Social Security Organisati­on (Socso) office here presented by its manager Jimmy Hendrick Kijon handed over benefits to two contributo­rs on Wednesday.

In the fi rst case van driver Ali Deli, 56, who was registered under Socso self- employed scheme on Nov 21 last year received RM1,530 in benefit for temporary disablemen­t after being involved in an accident on Dec 24 last year.

The accident happened when he was on his way back from Samalaju to his residence at RPR Kidurong after sending his passengers to Samalaju Port.

It was said that the van he was driving skidded off the road and landed in a drain. Ali suffered broken toes and other injuries due to the impact.

“I would like to thank Socso for the good hospitalit­y and simplifyin­g my claim process.

“For taxi and rental van drivers, I urge them to register with Socso so that they will always be protected,” Ali said.

Meanwhile, the second case involved the late Hendry Sim Muli, 23, who died on Feb 8.

After learning of his death, Skuad Perkeso Prihatin investigat­ed the case to locate his next- of-kin. After reviewing its record, the deceased’s next- of-kin was eligible to receive the survivor’s pension. Socso paid out RM2,000 for funeral benefits to the father of the deceased.

For the record, since its implementa­tion on June 1, 2017, 28 drivers have registered under the self- employed scheme in 2018 and only 10 registered as of Feb 20 this year.
