SIBU: Seven branches of Lions Clubs under Lions International District 308-A2 contributed a total of RM25,000 for ‘Donation of Eye Cornea Project’ at Sibu Hospital here.

The donation was in the form of preloaded hydrophobic monofocal IOL (intraocular lens) for selected patients to undergo cornea operation at the hospital, organising chairman Peter Wong said.

He added that the main objective of the project was to help the lowincome group of people with cornea disease.

Speaking before the handing over of the donation yesterday, Sibu Hospital director Dr Ngian Hie Ung said that not many patients with the disease come to seek treatment at the hospital.

“This is due to financial constraint particularly those from the low income group.

“They are worried about the cost of such operation,” she said.

Ngian thanked the Lions Clubs for their generosity in helping those selected for the project.

The seven Lions Clubs are Lions Club of Sibu Nangka, Lions Club of Sibu Jaya, Lions Club of Queensway Sibu, Lions Club of Sibu Mandarin, Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan, Lions Club of Bawang Assan and Lions Club of Sibu Lanang.

Also present during the presentation ceremony were Lions Club past international director Datin Ellis Suriyati and Lions Club International District 308-A2 governor Tiong Yong Tiing.
