CM opens new home for Sri Satok CBR Centre
KUCHING: The new home for the Sri Satok Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Centre – Pusat Kebajikan Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani – was officially declared open yesterday.
Permodalan Satok Berhad executive director Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Dato Husain said the centre costing RM1 million was built on 0.35 acre of land belonging to the company.
It is a two- storey building providing welfare support services for a CBR centre and an Old Folks Activity Centre (Pawe), he said.
“The welfare centre provides free advice, family guidance and social welfare to the people living in the area. It opens from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. There are 60 people registered with Sri Satok CBR Centre and for Pawe, we are expecting around 62 registrants,” he said.
He said the ground floor has a kitchen, dining area, sensory room, physiotherapy room, hydrotherapy pool, craft shop and three classrooms.
The upper floor has the general office, meeting room, medical, counselling, IT and lecture room, committee room, balcony and storeroom, he said.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the centre was held on Nov 13 last year and the building was completed on Feb 4.
Meanwhile, Petra Jaya Welfare Association deputy chairman Dr Ismail Drahman said the centre was built to replace the Sri Satok CBR Centre, which was a rented premises.
Since it was formed in 2015, the Sri Satok CBR Centre has 60 trainees who excel in various fields like arts and sports.
“Some of our trainees were also given the opportunity to work at Mydin Hypermart after attending training at Sri Satok, meaning that they have their own hidden talents, just that they need to be unearthed.”
Pusat Kebajikan Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani was opened by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
It is named after Abang Johari’s wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who is the centre’s chairperson and Sri Satok CBR Centre’s advisor and patron.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on Barisan Nasional ( BN)’s win in the Semenyih byelection, Abang Johari, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, refused to comment, saying that it was Peninsular Malaysia politics and had nothing to do with Sarawak.
BN wrested the Semenyih state seat after its candidate Zakaria Hanafi won the four-cornered fight in the by- election with majority of 1,914 votes. Zakaria, 58, polled 19,780 votes, beating PH candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali, 30, who garnered 17,866 votes; Parti Sosialis Malaysia candidate Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, 25, (847 votes) and independent candidate who is also a social activist, Kuan Chee Heng, 56, (725 votes).
Asked on GPS stand on the socalled no- confidence vote on the Prime Minister, he replied: “Politik sinun ney saya tauk (Politics over there, I would not know)”.
Present were Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Assistant Minister of Law, StateFederal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
