Lau: Community leaders must seek new opportunities set to benefit their charges
SIBU: Local community leaders must continue to seek new opportunities and work together to make a difference in their respective communities.
In throwing this challenge, Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association ( SDCCLA) chairman Temmengong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming also encouraged fellow leaders to share their objectives with those around them and collaborate for the greater good.
“With the strong foundation laid by past leaders, I have great confidence that the association will continue to dedicate its efforts towards leveraging opportunities to expand Chinese community leaders’ influence and impact, while seeking to unite all sectors of society for positive impact and growth,” he said in his address at SDCCIA’s installation ceremony for the 2019-2020 term cum Chinese New Year gathering at a hotel here on Saturday night.
Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee was present as the guest- of-honour.
On the installation ceremony, Lau said it symbolised the ‘ renewal’ of SDCCLA’s commitment to its values, mission and vision as the association embarked on ‘another year of positive change’.
He told SDCCLA members: “I hope you would build on the momentum gained previously and continue to serve to bring positive impact to our community.
“Alone, one can do so little; together, we can do so much – this powerful quote by Helen Keller will forever stand the test of time. When we work together on a common goal, we can achieve things beyond our greatest imagination.
“This is especially true if our intentions are real, and the purpose is for the greater good. No matter how good we are individually, no man is an island. By working together we can achieve so much more ; ultimately, this helps every one of us to realise our full potential.”
Deputy Sibu Resident Wong Hie Sieng, Sibu District Officer Suhaili Mohamed and local community leader Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce were among those present.
