Certain BSHR applicants need more help than others, observes rep

MIRI: A certain percentage of those who meet the eligibility requirements for Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat ( BSHR) would need more assistance when it comes to applying for this government aid for the people.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said this group comprises senior citizens who may be unsure about the means and channels for them to apply for the BSHR.

His remarks came about following the success of the BSHR booth set up by Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) last week, where many senior citizens requested the party to continue running such service.

“Many people are unsure about where or how to apply for the BSHR, especially the senior citizens who may not be tech-savvy enough to obtain the information relating to the aid.

“After our (SUPP’s) initial effort of opening the BSHR counter last weekend at Persiaran Kabor (also known as ‘Senior Citizens Street’), there have been requests (for SUPP) to come back to the same venue; thus the event this weekend,” said Ting when met at the BSHR counter here on Saturday.

Based on an observation Saturday, dozens of senior citizens thronged the counter just after it opened at 9am.

“We will still run the counter at the same venue this Sunday ( yesterday) from 9am to 11am, before continuing our rounds at the ‘kampung’ (village) areas in the afternoon.

“We will do our best to cater to the needs of the people. Hopefully, the eligible applicants could register for the BSHR as early as possible,” added Ting.
