Youth club to hold fund-raising dinner

-

MIRI: Bukit Peninjau Youth Club will be holding its fi rst fund raising dinner on March 30 at 6.30pm in Meritz Hotel.

According to its chairman Gemene Kelik, the fund raised will be used to set up a gym for youths from Kampung Bukit Peninjau and neighbouring areas.

“We hope to raise about RM100,000 to set up a gym as well as purchase equipment for the gym,” he said.

Gemene hoped that once the gym is up and running, it can be used as a youth activity centre for Bukit Peninjau to promote a healthy lifestyle and body building to steer youths away from negative social activities.

Elaborating, he added they are targeting to sell 40 tables for the dinner which will feature 12 finalists of Pekit Kumang Belia 2019 competition as the highlight.

“The competition is open to single Iban ladies aged 30 years and below with participation fee of RM50 per person. So far, eight ladies have registered.

“Those who wish to participate may register before the closing date on March 16,” said Gemene.

The dinner will also feature various programmes such as body building, ‘ngajat’ and ‘silat’ performances as well as lucky draws.

Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has been invited to officiate at the dinner.

The event is supported by Tani Youth Association, Rhema Christian Youth Association, Permyjaya Youth Association, Miri Youth Association and Miri Raban Ngepan Iban Association.

Tickets for the dinner priced at RM600 per table for ten persons or RM60 per person are currently on sale.
