Two Cambridge-bound students in need of financial assistance

-

KUCHING: Two students, who are offered places at Cambridge University in the UK to take up engineering and English programmes, are in dire need of scholarships to finance their studies.

Yesterday, they called upon Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP)’s Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap, appealing for his help to seek assistance in obtaining scholarships, including from Yayasan Sarawak.

Yap said he had written, on behalf of the two students, an appeal letter for the Chief Minister’s intervention in the request for Yayasan Sarawak scholarships or other financial assistance to enable the youths to take up the study offer.

Yap regarded the two as ‘being worthy for the assistance’ because they would help to develop Sarawak upon their return after graduation.

“It is imperative for Sarawak to develop and retain its best talents as it embarks on an important mission of becoming a progressive and high-income state as envisioned by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for a high-income digital economy.”

Yap also hoped that the Sarawak government would continue to give scholarships and other financial assistance to qualified and deserving students from less well-to- do families.

“The focus on quality human capital development will also contribute towards increasing the ability of Sarawak to attract high-technology industries that are vital to the success of any digital economy,” Yap said in a press statement issued here yesterday.
