O&G player donates to fishing community
MIRI: Malaysia-based multinational provider for oil and gas industry’s upstream sector, Velesto Energy Berhad ( VEB), recently donated mini fire extinguishers and safety jackets to the fishing community of Kampung Kuala Sibuti in Bekenu.
The distribution of 70 extinguishers and 150 highvisibility jackets was part of its ‘Safety @ Work & Home’ corporate social responsibility ( CSR) programme, said VEB president Rohaizad Darus, who graced the event together with Sibuti MP Lukasnisman Awang Sauni.
The items were presented to village head Abdullah Yaman, witnessed by Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Miri chief Law Poh Kiong, Malaysia Nature Society ( MNS) Miri branch representative Musa Musbah and community leader Pemanca Ali

He added the company’s CSR initiatives are streamlined into three main categories – safety, education and environment – that ultimately translate into raising and improving awareness on safety culture, capacity-building through education, as well as protecting and preserving nature.
During the programme, the VEB’s Health, Safety and Environment head Mohd Ali Mohd Saibi delivered a brief talk on the importance of safety and the community’s role in ensuring incidents are prevented or kept to a minimum.
Other activities held during the event were a nature walk and wildlife observation session for schoolchildren, fire safety talk, and demonstration on how to properly use the all-purpose fire extinguishers.
