Masjid An-Nur Sibu receives five-star mosque rating for best overall performance in 2018

-

SIBU: Masjid An-Nur here has been accorded with a five- star recognition for being the overall best among all mosques across Sarawak last year.

The rating is based on Sarawak Mosques Star-Rating Recognition Standard set by the Sarawak Islamic Council (Mais) and Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

According to MIS president Datu Misnu Taha, Masjid An-Nur is the only one in Sarawak that has attained such rating for overall performance.

“From the total 53 mosques throughout Sarawak that underwent auditing last year, only 10 received three- star and above ratings – out of the 10, Masjid AnNur Sibu was the only one that scored the five- star overall best rating.

“Thus, we would like to congratulate Masjid An-Nur management committee, including Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee who is instrumental in transforming this mosque into what it is today. I hope in years to come, an event like this could be organised in a larger scale so that more people would realise that our mosques have their own standard and specification,” he said at the symbolic handover of the rating at the mosque’s seminar hall yesterday, where Masjid AnNur Sibu management committee chairman Latiff Kupon was present to receive it.

On a relevant matter, Misnu said Mais had always being doing its upmost best to develop the mosques all throughout Sarawak, where such effort had been getting the attention of the Sarawak government.

“In making sure that the mosque management would run smoothly, the Sarawak Mosque Institute was formed, with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg being its chairman, and the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan its deputy chairman.

“It’s an approach towards taking good care of the mosques across Sarawak because we do not want these centres of worship to look pleasant only from the outside; if they’re not managed properly, it would be a major loss.

“In this regard, I call upon all management committees throughout Sarawak to take good care of their respective mosques.”
