Thick smoke blankets northern part of Miri

-

MIRI: Thick smoke blanketing the northern part of the city yesterday could be seen from as far as the city centre.

The images were shared online by Facebook users who blamed the incident on open burning by irresponsible individuals.

Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, when asked about the thick smoke, said it was caused by fire behind SK Kuala Baram 2.

“There is a big fire on agricultural land there and we have deployed our men to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading,” he said.

Law added that the affected area was located far from the main road and the size of the affected land had yet to be ascertained.
